‘I’m 54 with the thickest hair I’ve ever had – these 3 tricks saved me from disaster’

Often thought of as a problem that plagues just older men, hair thinning and hair loss can happen to anyone of any age for a number of reasons. It is also a side effect experienced by many women as they go through menopause.

Whatever the cause, hair loss can be upsetting and frustrating for the affected person.

While it may not be possible to entirely prevent or reverse thinning locks, there are steps we can take to help keep our hair healthy and strong.

With this in mind, one beauty influencer took to social media platform TikTok, to share three products she uses that saved her own hair from the “edge of disaster”.

Known online as just Cristina, the 54-year-old revealed the trio of supplements she takes for healthier locks.

Speaking to her more than 350,000 followers, she explained: “I’m going to give you some incredible tips that have taken me from the edge of hair disaster to having fabulous hair. It’s never too late to have fabulous hair.

“If you’re serious about this you’re going to have to get consistent and you’re going to have to work from the inside out.”

According to Cristina, the best way to protect your hair is taking the supplements biotin, silica and saw palmetto.

Biotin – also known as vitamin B7 – is backed by scientists as a preventative treatment for hair loss.

It is a water-soluble B vitamin found naturally in some foods such as meat, eggs, fish, seeds, and nuts.

As reported by Medical News Today, it can help maintain a healthy nervous system, nails, hair and skin, among other functions.

Cristina also recommended upping your silica intake, because it encourages hair growth by stimulating the production of collagen.

Foods high in silica include green beans, brown rice, lentils, cereal, and lentils.

Saw palmetto was third on Cristina’s list of go-to ingredients for luscious hair.

While its benefits as a hair loss treatment have been challenged by the medical community, some anecdotal evidence suggests that it works for some.

“Taken in small doses, saw palmetto is unlikely to be harmful, however it’s inadvisable to spend too much time or money investing in this product as a hair loss treatment,” Lloyds Pharmacy says.

For the best results, Cristina emphasised that it’s imperative to take the supplements routinely, every single day.

“Make sure you’re getting those three ingredients every single day,” she added.
